Healthy Watersheds and Thriving Cities brings together local agencies, community-based organizations, Tribes, and community members to streamline the planning and implementation of multi-benefit urban greening in the Santa Clara Valley. The project, headed by SFEI, includes over 17 partner organizations and focuses on a community-led approach to planning and implementing nature-based greening solutions. By planning at the landscape scale, the project works to improve water and habitat quality throughout the urban portions of the Guadalupe and Coyote Creek watersheds, while maximizing other greening benefits such as flood protection, biodiversity support, heat mitigation, and access to nature. These efforts will improve not only the overall health and resilience of the people and wildlife in Santa Clara Valley, but lead to water quality improvements within the larger San Francisco Bay. Project components include the convening of a Regional Working Group, extensive community engagement, multi-benefit needs assessment, scenario comparison, visualization of geospatial data, and assistance on three types of nature-based implementation projects.
