Science and Planning to Support a Resilient Delta
The Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta supplies freshwater to a large portion of California’s population, supports an agricultural economy and culture, and is home to native wildlife found nowhere else in the world. It is an extensive, unique, highly modified, and, as a result, very complicated system. Key knowledge to aid in decision making can be acquired through understanding how underlying geologic and hydrologic processes still influence the landscape, and through anticipating current and future challenges associated with sea level rise and other impacts from climate change. Our Delta Landscapes team builds on foundational investigations of historical ecology and landscape change in the Delta to produce a holistic, aspirational approach to ecosystem restoration that supports a broad suite of ecological benefits.
