Sierra is a Science Communicator with expertise in writing and telling stories about ecosystems, coastlines, and complex systems science. She has an MA and BSci from Stanford University's Earth Systems program, with emphases on environmental communication and oceans and climate respectively. Prior to joining SFEI, she conducted social science research into perceptions of environmental change, developed innovative science curricula for elementary through college students, and reported on environmental topics for a range of regional and national outlets.

Sierra is passionate about making science accessible to everyone and breaking down disciplinary silos. She is a National Geographic Explorer and Fulbright alum.
