Background

Rachel Allen is an environmental scientist with the Nutrient Management Program, focused on understanding and characterizing the fate of nutrients released into San Francisco Bay. She comes to SFEI from postdoctoral work at the U.S. Geological Survey, where she used physical numerical models and field observations to study sediment transport in estuarine systems. She completed her Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering at U.C. Berkeley, studying fluid mechanics in estuaries through more field observations in San Francisco Bay. Prior to grad school, she worked as an Environmental Analyst with SFEI's Regional Monitoring Program, learning about contaminants in the Bay. She completed her B.A. at Williams College, studying chemistry and mathematics.
