Sunset Natural Resilience Project
The Sunset Natural Resilience Project (SNRP) consists of six individual but related projects to increase the ability of human and natural communities to adapt to and prepare for the impacts of climate change. The projects will further the biodiversity goals of the City of San Francisco while making a dense urban environment a more livable and enjoyable space. San Francisco Estuary Institute (SFEI), will support the development of each individual project in coordination with project partners. SFEI will provide scientific support by applying innovative tools in urban ecology, historical ecology, and coastal resilience to a diverse set of implementation projects ranging from green schoolyards to biodiversity corridors.
The six individual projects are located within an approximately 4,150-acre area bounded by the Pacific Ocean to the west, Sunset Boulevard to the east, and linking the city’s major open spaces from Fort Funston/Lake Merced Park to Golden Gate Park to Lands End to the Presidio. These projects are supported by various City of San Francisco departments and agencies who are all partners in SNRP. This work is funded by the State Coastal Conservancy through their Climate Ready Program.
