The Shasta River Valley Historical Ecology Reconnaissance Study will collect, compile, and analyze historical data within the Shasta River Valley prior to major Euro-American modification, focusing on a critical 26-mile reach of the Shasta River for salmonid habitat restoration.
The study will use a variety of materials, including historical maps, aerial photography, images, textual accounts, and early land surveys to develop a baseline understanding of the historical functions and conditions of the valley. These materials will help uncover historical landscape patterns, physical controls and processes, fish and wildlife presence, and land use history.
