Background
I am an environmental scientist at heart, and throughout my career, I’ve worn many hats studying how environmental stressors affect our planet. My work has ranged from tracing pollutants like lead and chlorinated solvents across diverse environmental reservoirs, from the Arctic to groundwater, to studying deoxygenation, acidification, and iron limitation in marine phytoplankton.
I credit much of this journey to my background and research experiences. Born and raised in the Philippines, I earned my BS and MS in Chemistry from the University of the Philippines before pursuing my PhD at the University of Toronto (UofT). I continued my research as a postdoctoral scholar at UofT and, more recently, at University of Southern California.
Now at SFEI, I’m working with the Stormwater team to trace urban contaminants threatening the health of San Francisco Bay. I’m excited to bring my interdisciplinary background to this work and contribute to efforts that make a real difference for the Bay and local communities.
