Background
Cal Buelo is an Environmental Scientist in the Clean Water program at SFEI working on the Nutrient Management Strategy studying the impacts of nutrient inputs on water quality. He has a BS from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Biology and Mathematics and a PhD in Environmental Sciences from the University of Virginia. His PhD research focused on early warning statistics of algal blooms and the disturbance and recovery of estuaries following hurricanes. Prior to joining SFEI, he was a Physical Scientist with the US EPA Great Lakes National Program Office working on binational nutrient load calculations, in-lake water quality assessment, and Lake Erie adaptive management.
