RMP monitoring of spatial patterns and long-term trends in contaminants in water began in 1993. Water monitoring in the dry season occurs on a two-year cycle at 5 targeted historic stations and 17 random stations in the deep Bay.
Copper, cyanide, PFAS, bisphenols, organophosphate esters, and ancillary parameters are analyzed. Water monitoring in the wet season was conducted annually as a pilot study from 2022-2024 at four near-field stations and four deep Bay stations. The wet season monitoring is conducted after storms to measure the influence of urban stormwater on concentrations of PFAS, bisphenols, organophosphate esters in the Bay. Details of the design for RMP water sampling are provided in Foley et al. (2024).
Copper Rolling Average
As part of the copper site-specific objective water quality objective for the Bay, NPDES dischargers are required to calculate the three-year rolling average of dissolved copper concentrations in water in each segment of the Bay, based on RMP data.
This table presents the segment average and corresponding trigger levels in the Basin Plan. The average includes data from randomized as well as historical sites in the segments, although it excludes data from the historical reference site outside the Golden Gate.
Cyanide Rolling Average
As part of the cyanide site-specific water quality objective for the Bay, NPDES dischargers are required to calculate the three-year rolling average of cyanide concentrations in water in each segment of the Bay, based on RMP data.
This table presents the segment average and corresponding trigger levels in the Basin Plan. The average includes data from randomized as well as historical sites in the segments, although it excludes data from the historical reference site outside the Golden Gate.
