Marine Mammals
Table of Contents
The addition of marine mammals (harbor seals and harbor porpoises) to S&T biota monitoring with a focus on contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) was piloted in 2023 and 2024. In this pilot effort, tissues of harbor seals and harbor porpoises were analyzed for PFAS and by non-targeted analysis to identify other CECs that warrant prioritization for future monitoring. Previous studies of harbor seals were conducted by the RMP from 2006–2008 and focused on PFAS in blood (Sedlak and Greig 2012).
