The Habematolel Pomo of Upper Lake (HPUL) and the Lake County Watershed Protection District (District) approached SFEI with a challenge: how can they submit their years of water quality data in a format compatible with the California Environmental Data Exchange Network (CEDEN)? After all, there are many key regulatory decisions that take data from such a state repository into account.
By leveraging SFEI’s experience as a Regional Data Center, this project facilitates greater availability, use, and analysis of the wealth of data produced by the HPUL tribe and the District.
SFEI is collaborating with HPUL and the District to exchange their water quality data with CEDEN, USEPA's Water Quality Exchange (WQX), and the Contaminant Data Display and Download Tool (CD3). Phase 1 focused on developing templates and guidance documents for standardizing results and uploading data collected through 2023. Phase 2 will upload new data to these databases and develop a user-friendly portal for accessing Lake County data.
Once in SFEI's Regional Data Center, CEDEN, and WQX, the data will serve a range of new purposes. As such, this work will position HPUL and the District for future opportunities.
