Surfing Bay mud. Chasing midnight storms. Sharing invisible maps.

Join us for Field Notes from the Bay, an evening of storytelling on Thursday, April 30th at the Ocean Photographer of the Year exhibition in partnership with the West End Arts District in Alameda. In short, five-minute talks, environmental scientists from the San Francisco Estuary Institute (SFEI) will share insider perspectives on what it takes to study and protect the Sacramento–San Joaquin Delta and San Francisco Bay. 

In a special art-meets-science collaboration, the scientists will be preparing with Alameda storyteller extraordinaire JP Frary—a six-time The Moth StorySLAM winner—who will also emcee the evening as his protégés take the stage.

Expect insight, humor, and a deeper connection to the waters in our own backyard.

What to Expect

• An engaging evening of 3–5 minute science stories from SFEI staff
• Opportunities to connect with our science and our community in a new way
• An exhibition of some of the best ocean photography in the last year

The Ocean Photographer of the Year exhibition will be open from 5.30pm. Come early to enjoy the gallery before our storytellers hit the stage between 7pm - 8pm. The exhibition will close at 8.30pm.
