The Regional Framework for the Next Generation of Urban Greening (“the Framework”) provides a roadmap for this alignment, offering nine essential steps to help practitioners navigate the complex, cross-cutting challenges of urban greening. Each step is supported by practical guidance, case studies, and recommended resources to inspire action and translate the Framework into practice. The steps of the Framework are organized by three scales—landscape-scale planning, site-scale implementation, and regional innovation—and centers around key themes that were identified by practitioners in the San Francisco Bay Area. While there is still much to learn and develop, taking concrete steps to apply the Framework will help grow a stronger, more connected urban greening community of practice. By working together across scales and disciplines to strategically implement multi-benefit urban greening, the region can better rise to the occasion, delivering a broad range of benefits that meet the needs of communities now and into the future.
