This report presents the results of a community-led effort to assess contaminant concentrations in sport fish collected from the Carquinez Strait in 2023–2024. The project was conducted to fill critical data gaps for contaminants of concern, including mercury, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), in species commonly caught and consumed by local anglers. The study responds directly to community concerns about potential health risks associated with eating locally caught fish, particularly for subsistence and cultural fishers in historically underserved San Francisco Bay shoreline areas, especially those living by and overburdened by polluting industries. The project complements the dataset generated by the Regional Monitoring Program for Water Quality in San Francisco Bay (RMP) to document spatial patterns in contaminant exposure and to evaluate progress toward long-term cleanup goals.
