The SFEI Board of Director’s has evolved and grown in recent weeks.  One member has transitioned and four new leaders have joined the Board.  Two will represent BACWA (the Bay Area Clean Water Agencies), and two will serve as “At Large” members.

Transitions  

Eileen White - SFEI is grateful for Eileen White’s, four years of service to SFEI as the Director of the East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD), Wastewater program and as one of three SFEI Board members on behalf of the Bay Area Clean Water Agencies (BACWA).  Eileen recently became the new Executive Officer of the San Francisco Bay Regional Water Board. In this new role, Eileen will transition off as a full time Board member.  However she will remain as a “S.F. Bay Water Board” alternate to Board Member Tom Mumley.

New BACWA Members

Amit Mutsuddy - Amit is the Deputy Director leading the Operations and Maintenance group of San Jose Santa Clara Regional Wastewater Facility.  Amit has been with the City of San Jose for almost 23 years. He is registered Civil Engineer in the State of California, LEED Accredited Professional, and has B.S and M.S degrees in Civil Engineering, with specialty in water and wastewater. Amit has served as the Chair of the Bay Area Clean Water Agencies’ Executive Board since 2020 and is its current chair.

Lori Schectel - Lori is the Environmental and Regulatory Compliance Manager for the Central Contra Costa Sanitary District (Central San), where she directs the District’s environmental and regulatory programs. Lori currently serves on the Bay Area Clean Water Agencies (Chair 2018-2020) and the Regional Nutrient Management Strategy Steering Committee, as well as the CA Association of Sanitation Agencies Regulatory Workgroup Water Committee.  Lori began her Bay Area career with the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission. Previously, she practiced environmental law at U.S. EPA and in private practice in Washington, DC, after earning a JD with a concentration in environmental law.

New “At Large” Members

James McGrath: Jim has previously served on the SFEI-ASC Board. Jim has served the Bay Area community as a member of the S.F. Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board for 15 years (7 vice-chair and 3 as chair).  He also served as member of the Bay Conservation and Development Commission for 14 years.  Jim’s environmental and regulatory experience also includes prior work for the Environmental Protection Agency, the California Coastal Commission, and the Port of Oakland as its Environmental Manager for 15 years.  SFEI welcomes Jim back as a returning Board member.

Dr. Amber Mace: Amber is the CEO of the CA Council on Science and Technology (CCST).  CCST is a nonpartisan, nonprofit boundary organization, established in 1988 to bridge science, technology and policy and to advise California’s decision makers on these matters.  The CCST brings together many prestigious CA academic and research institutions.  Dr. Mace brings two decades of leadership experience working at the nexus of science and policy, drawing on her extensive background in environmental policy and marine ecology.   She has led the organization on a range of issues from disaster resilience and adaptation, to climate change and energy, raising over $30 million from individuals and foundations to support CCST programs.
