The Wetland Regional Monitoring Program (WRMP) Plan has been released! The WRMP will improve wetland restoration project success by putting in place regional-scale monitoring increasing the impact, utility and application of permit-driven monitoring to inform science-based decision-making. The Plan is the result of two years of work from a committed group of regulators, scientists and restoration practitioners. But it actually represents the culmination of a 20-year collaborative process, whereby scientists and agency staffers worked tirelessly to promote the value of a regional program that can address persistent, unaddressed knowledge gaps and inefficiencies for the San Francisco Estuary and its many stakeholders.
Tidal wetlands in the San Francisco Estuary face an uncertain future due to climate change, continued development pressure, and other regional stressors. The Wetland Regional Monitoring Program (WRMP) will leverage monitoring data to respond and adapt to these challenges and help support a more resilient Estuary. Through a collaborative, consensus-based process, the WRMP is seeking to understand how the region’s tidal wetlands are changing over time and how to improve success of wetlands restoration efforts.
The San Francisco Estuary Partnership facilitated a deliberative process that our Institute helped to usher to completion. SFEI Chief Scientist Josh Collins guided the science in close consultation with numerous workgroups and in partnership with Christina Toms of the Regional Waterboard. By the final measure, there were many contributors to the plan with all of those listed in below serving as meaningful partners in reviewing details captured in the final document. Now, the WRMP Plan is available for your perusal.

Delta Aquatic Resource Inventory (Project)
DARI is the Delta Aquatic Resources Inventory of surface waters, wetlands and other aquatic resources in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta (Delta). The goal of the DARI project is to develop a geospatial inventory of aquatic resources that will be used as a common base map for the Delta. A similar mapping approach used to create the California Aquatic Resource Inventory (CARI) will be applied to provide a map of the aquatic resources and their associated attributes.
EcoAtlas is a set of tools for generating, assembling, storing, visualizing, sharing, and reporting environmental data and information.
California Aquatic Resource Inventory (CARI) (Project)
The California Aquatic Resources Inventory (CARI) is a Geographic Information System (GIS) based map of wetlands, streams, and riparian areas within California that is hosted online through EcoAtlas.
North Coast WRAMP Demonstration: Mapping Standards (Project)
The North Coast WRAMP Demonstation Project focused on mapping and assessing the condition of aquatic resources within the Santa Rosa Plain, CA using GIS based mapping protocols consistent with BAARI. A new regional Mapping Standards Methodology (NCARI) was developed to add regional wetland types not covered in BAARI's documentation.
Santa Rosa Plain Wetlands Profile: A Demonstration of WRAMP (Project)
The Santa Rosa Plain WRAMP project demonstrated the use of the State’s standardized monitoring and assessment tools in a North Coast watershed setting and described how the results can support watershed based management and planning decisions to protect and manage the state’s wetlands at a landscape scale.
