Clean Watersheds for a Clean Bay

The Clean Watersheds For A Clean Bay project is multi-year project focused on implementing the PCBs and mercury Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) water quality restoration programs, and is the next step in the effort to reduce loading of sediment-bound pollutants to the Bay. Funded by the USEPA, BASMAA, and 6 six of the Bay Area countywide stormwater management agencies, this project is evaluating control options to reduce mass loadings of PCBs, Hg and other pollutants from urban stormwater runoff to the San Francisco Bay. 

SFEI's Data Services team was subcontracted by Applied Marine Sciences (AMS) to manage the analytical data for the project. Urban environmental samples were collected from street sweeping activities, storm drain system cleaning and non-routine activities such as street and storm drain piping flushing. These samples were sent to selected laboratories and analyzed for mercury, PCBs and other pollutants. The results were submitted to SFEI by the laboratories and underwent routine data management protocols including data standardization using California Environmental Data Exchange Network (CEDEN) vocabulary and business rules and evaluation for quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC). Results are stored in a project specific database and provided to the project managers and stakeholders upon approval for release.
