Dr. Fono comes to the Executive Director position with more than 14 years of experience in wastewater, recycled water, and stormwater regulatory compliance, water resources management, and wastewater treatment planning. Her background also includes research on water and air quality issues, with a focus on the occurrence, fate, and transport of emerging wastewater-derived contaminants.
Most recently, Dr. Fono served BACWA as Regulatory Program Manager since 2012. In this capacity, she has worked with staff at agencies around our Region, including upper management, engineers, laboratory staff, and operations and maintenance supervisors. She brings to this role established relationships with regulators and other stakeholders throughout the San Francisco Bay Region. She looks forward to working with the San Francisco Bay Area POTW community in this new capacity and guiding BACWA in continuing to provide the high level of service that our members expect.
Dr. Fono holds a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Toronto, and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering and Science, both from the University of California at Berkeley. She is a licensed Professional Civil Engineer in California.
