Erin Beller and Robin Grossinger, along with Jeanine Rhemtulla of McGill University, convened a day-long symposium on the use of historical ecology in highly developed landscapes at the International Association for Landscape Ecology annual conference.

The session brought together leading historical ecology researchers from around the world, including David Foster (Harvard Forest), David Mladenoff (University of Wisconsin, Madison), Eric Sanderson (author of Mannahatta), and Brian Collins (Puget Sound River History Project).

In addition to presenting original research, symposium members participated in a roundtable discussion on next steps in the field, including shared visualization tools and a web portal for accessing historical ecology reconstructions around the world.
