Introduced Plants Species

The San Francisco Estuary Institute received funding in 1997 from Category III of CALFED to assess priorities for the control of introduced tidal marsh plants in the San Francisco Estuary. Several control efforts are underway, planned, or being considered for a variety of introduced plant species, involving different levels of cost, potential for success, and risk of harmful side effects. Because achieving successful control of introduced plants that are distributed across public and private lands will require a regional effort, we endeavored

  1. to determine which are the most important species to control and
  2. to identify their current and potential locations. Additionally, we assessed research needs to address introduced marsh plant issues. This report details the steps taken and results achieved towards these goals for the management of introduced tidal marsh plants in the Estuary.
