SFEI Board Role:
Vice Chair, SFEI

Skyli McAfee brings knowledge of ocean and coastal policy and science from years of working at key NGOs in California and throughout North America. Most recently, she served as the Director of Ocean and Coasts for The Nature Conservancy’s North America program; before that she served as the Executive Director of the California Ocean Science Trust, and was appointed the Science Advisor to the Ocean Protection Council.

In 2014, Skyli convened the West Coast Ocean Acidification and Hypoxia Science Panel, sanctioned by the governors of California, Oregon, Washington and the premier of British Columbia. Findings from this prestigious panel have led to substantive legislation, and a re-dedication by west coast states to prioritize actions that address the threat of acidification. Throughout her career, she has worked at the nexus of research, policy, technology and local knowledge, and is motivated by what government and communities can do together to address challenges to our oceans and coasts.
