Comprehensive Conservation Management Plan (CCMP) Phase 6
Scientific Support for CCMP Prioritization, Implementation, and Performance Evaluation In 2007, the CCMP was updated to reflect continuing and new needs and opportunities for protecting and restoring valuable ecosystem components, to more strongly link the Estuary itself to its surrounding watersheds, and to refine and adjust education, outreach, and progress tracking activities. SFEI continued to assist SFEP with CCMP implementation by participating in a prioritization process with the Implementation Committee. SFEI also worked with specific implementing agencies to identify existing policies, programs, and projects which could, with appropriate adjustments as necessary, focus achievement of desired environmental outcomes in a quantifiable and science-based manner. A key component of CCMP implementation support will be the application of the California Watershed Assessment Framework (based on the 2002 EPA Science Advisory Board’s guidance on reporting on environmental condition) as part of the ongoing effort to expand the range of indicators and multi-metric indices that are able to track the performance of protection and restoration investments.
Tracking Habitat for SFEP SFEI supported the web-based Wetland Project Tracker, as well as SFEP’s Government Performance Reporting Act (GPRA) report process. US EPA requires SFEP to annually track habitat – the acquisition, restoration and enhancement of wetlands and riparian habitat. The information is reported as part of the GPRA. SFEI worked with SFEP, its partners, ABAG and the San Francisco Bay Water Board to provide this information to US EPA. (GPRA report is due Sept. 1, annually). In addition, the Wetlands Regional Monitoring Program, a component of the Wetlands Restoration Program (WRP) for the San Francisco Bay needed support to update and maintain the contents of the WRP website. SFEI continued to use www.wrmp.org as the WRP site and add new information such as meeting minutes and updated protocols as they are created. Information will be added as directed by the Wetland Monitoring Group Chair and committee.
